Ten on Tuesday

Ten on Tuesday is a feature started by the fabulous Chelsea. I just discovered her blog but was happy to find that her precious baby Jansen was born on the husband & my 3rd wedding anniversary! So obviously this (among other things) means she’s fabulous πŸ™‚

1. What do you order at Starbucks?
If I make a special trip to Starbucks it’s most likely fall and I either get a Pumpkin Spice Frap (if it’s still warm out) or a Pumpkin Spice Latte (if it’s cold out)

2. Where is your favorite place to eat breakfast?
When I was younger there was an amazing cafe called LeCoco’s where I’d always order the most amazing Blueberry Waffle. Nowadays, I usually make at least one weekend morning run to Bojangles.

3. Are you on Twitter? Why or why not?
Yes. I like making sure people know what I’m up to. And sometimes, I like being on Twitter so I can say something witty. πŸ™‚

4. What is your favorite Christmas movie?
Of all time? Elf. Give me a call anytime in December and I’ll most likely answer the phone “Buddy the elf, what’s your favorite color?”

5. Are you a good gift giver?
Giving gifts is one of my favorite things to do. (Don’t get me wrong, I like receiving presents too) but I love to watch people open presents from me. My problem is that I have a difficult time keeping my gifts a secret. My mother tells me all the time about how I would sit on my Papa’s lap when I was younger while he was opening presents and he’d always ask me what each present was before he opened it. And I’d always tell him. πŸ™‚ I’ve been holding onto most of this year’s Christmas presents for our family since the cruise and it is KILLING me.

6. Do you like your handwriting? Bonus points for posting a picture.
Apologies for crappy Photobooth quality. Transcription: My handwriting has recently changed due to working at the bar and having to post specials on chalkboards. And I’d say I like where my handwriting is going but I’m not in love with it.

7. Is your signature legible? Bonus points for posting a picture.
I think I’m going to have to draw the line at posting a picture of my signature for obvious identity theft fears, but yes, my signature very obviously looks like my name. Though sometimes it looks like my nickname b/c I tend to not finish off the top of the letter A. My maiden name signature? Not legible at all.

8. Have you ever been to New York during Christmas season?
No, and this makes me very, very sad. One of my dreams is to go to NYC for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Yes, even though I hate crowds, I think it would be so much fun to go see the parade live at least once seeing as I’ve watched it on TV for as long as I can remember. I don’t ever leave my house on Thanksgiving until I’ve seen Santa Claus.

9.Β Are there anyΒ items thatΒ youΒ are completely brand loyal?
Not that I can think of. My husband used to be. He was so bad he wouldn’t even buy generic painkillers. But I have cured him of this. And my bank account thanks me πŸ™‚

10. Who is your favorite public speaker?
Is it a cop-out to say Conan? πŸ™‚

Weekend Highlights…

  • Friday night I feel asleep at 9:15. Woo! πŸ™‚
  • B/c I fell asleep so early on Friday I woke up at 7am raring to go. Luckily I had a ton to do on Saturday so I was actually happy about this.
  • My town’s Christmas parade is held on the first Saturday in December. I got all bundled up and headed over to my parent’s house to watch the parade with my parents, sister and niece.

My sister, my niece, and me…chosen solely b/c you can see the parade in the background. πŸ™‚

My favorite part of any Christmas parade πŸ™‚

(all photos taken by my father)

  • After the parade ended we headed inside to get a jump start on baking Christmas cookies for my parent’s Christmas Open House which they’re holding this weekend. In the middle of cutting out trees, stars, and ginger-people (the edible kind, no real-live gingers were harmed in the baking of these cookies, not even this ginger) I glanced outside and saw that it had started snowing!

  • Before it got too bad out (in NC, no one knows how to drive in the snow and even half an inch can be treacherous) I ran to the discount wine shop to pick up a bottle of my new favorite wine for us to enjoy whilst baking the rest of our cookies.
  • On Sunday after church, I headed over to Historic Hillsborough with my mother and a friend of mine to enjoy their annual Christmas Candlelight tour. Basically we got to go into some really beautiful homes and ‘ooh & ahh’ or ‘poo-poo’ over the decorations and re-modeling. It was wonderful πŸ™‚

All-in-all, a wonderful Holiday filled weekend. I’m so excited for the rest of the weekends soon to come, especially next weekend b/c my friends SB & Noni are coming to visit! πŸ™‚

I think the husband and I are at an age where we should start sending Christmas cards on a regular basis. We killed ourselves a few years ago handwriting personal cards to friends and family and I think that memories of cramped hands are the exact reason we haven’t sent Christmas cards in recent years.

That’s why Shutterfly is PERFECT. I’ve been perusing their holiday cards for a good few weeks now drooling over a few designs. And I’ve been scouring my photos for a good photo of the two of us (you know how the husband likes to be goofy in photos!)

I think I’ve decided on the following photo for our card:

I love this card but if I choose it, I think I have to pick a different picture…perhaps a goofy one?

I love reindeer, especially super cute ones! Plus it’s not holiday specific which is great b/c I have a few Jewish friends πŸ™‚

I also love this card for pretty much the same reasons but as a bonus? My chosen picture looks great with it!

Won’t it be fun to get one of these cards from me with our shining, smiling faces?

And in years to come? When we have a little babyspoon? I’m totally making calendars for everyone

And what’s even better? Shutterfly is giving away 50 free Christmas cards to bloggers who are eager to share their Holiday card creativity, like me! πŸ™‚ You can visit this website for details and entry!

Guest Judge

Last night I had the pleasure in assisting my friend Lori with her musical theatre class that she teaches each week. This class if full of little girls who are just the right mixture of hams, nervous nellies, and absolute angels. πŸ™‚

Each May a recital is held where these girls showcase their talents and at this year’s recital they’re going to perform a few songs from Disney’s Beauty & The Beast. I was asked to assist last night as judge for their auditions.

And oh my goodness! I thought I was going to have a terrible time since it’s very hard for me to watch anyone (but especially children) butcher something that I love. But for the hour & a half I was there, I had so much fun.

Each girl was asked to audition for at least 2-3 “parts” in each song. And wouldn’t you know, out of eleven girls, seven wanted to play Belle. πŸ™‚

We only had enough time to audition for the first song, what I lovingly refer to as the ‘Bonjour Song’ and here are a few highlights:

  • One girl told us she practiced 24/7. She practiced at school, on the bus, before bed, you name an activity and by golly she was practicing! And wouldn’t you know it? It showed. πŸ™‚ She was delightful.
  • One girl was ADAMANT that she only wanted to audition for Belle. I asked her if that meant that if she didn’t get that part she was going to be ok with playing a generic townspeople role. And the look of absolute horror that came across her face was hysterical. She admitted that perhaps auditioning for a Bimbette role would be fine as well, and SHOCKER she was a WAY better Bimbette than she was Belle.
  • One girl’s mother walked in during her audition and she went from total ham to nervous wreck. And it was adorable to watch.
  • Some girls just kind of stood there. So we tried to give them directions like “Do you have a crush on anyone at school? Anyone that you just LOOOOOOOOVE? That’s how the Bimbettes feel about Gaston. Try thinking about that.” And one girl was so very obviously still in the ‘boys are icky phase’ that she told us, “I’d rather feel that way about my father.” πŸ™‚

We went ahead and cast for that song last night after the girls left and I can’t wait to tell them next week! But of course, first we’ll need to have the sore winner/sore loser chat first. I have a feeling that without it my warm fuzzies for these kids will be replaced with annoyance and disappointment and I’d rather not have that happen.

It’s times like last night that make me realize how much I miss working in theatre. I also realize that in the next few years I need to look into getting certified to teach. In college I had wanted to double major in Education and Theatre. Unfortunately the time commitment to do so would have resulted in my being a complete zombie for 4 years so I took as many education classes as I could but still need to take a ‘Methods’ course and Student Teach in order to be qualified. At this point it might make more sense to go back to school and get my Master’s in Theatre Education. Perhaps this is something I will tackle in my 30’s πŸ™‚

What the hell?

I have been a redhead literally since the day I was born and I have NEVER heard the stereotype that apparently we talk too much.

That we have a temper? And how! πŸ™‚

“HOLY CRAP!!!! I totally just had an old lady who TOTALLY smelled like OLD PEOPLE!!!! LOL I know that’s really messed up but it was so blatant and bad smelling!! On top of that her hands were freezing! More than mine!

…I think she was a zombie!

Awkward stage…

I feel like I’m in an awkward place with this blog.

When I started my blog and when I had a large number of followers & comments I was freshly engaged/newly married. I had to stuff to talk about, stuff that didn’t seem like it was all that boring.

And since we’re still a small family with just the husband and me, I’m not even able to completely bombard you with photo posts every so often.

It’s just a strange place to be in, this part of my life.

Most days I open up a blank post and just sit and stare, occasionally typing a few sentences only to delete them b/c I just don’t see how they can possibly be interesting to anyone if they’re not even interesting to me.

It sounds depressing doesn’t it? But I know I’m not depressed. Sure I go through emotions like candy. Just yesterday I went from happy to completely pissed to sad and sappy back to happy and then fell asleep on the annoyed train. But I’m not sure that makes me depressed…just maybe a tad unstable πŸ™‚

Perhaps I’m just in a nasty little rut?
