This morning I woke up with a splitting headache. I hate those kinds of mornings. Nothing screams BAD DAY quite like waking up to a headache.
Not being able to see straight or even open both eyes completely I called my mother to let her know that I would be missing the carpool this morning and I emailed my boss to say that I’d be staying in my nice, cool, and dark bedroom for the day.
Then I was hit with the earth shattering thought…”crap! my time card is due today.”
Knowing I’d never be able to make the hour round trip journey into Durham to drop off my time card to insure I’d be paid in two weeks time any time soon, I crawled back in bed telling myself I’d deal with it later. Perhaps when I was able to peel both eyes open.
I woke with a start at 11:30, headache still blaring, but at least able to properly see. It was then or never.
So I rolled slowly out of bed and made my way to the shower still bent over. B/c nothing hurts worse when you have a splitting headache than walking upright. Am I right?
Freshly showered and medicated I made the trek to Durham in the car with no air conditioning.
When I got there another terrifying thought popped into my head. “Where the hell am I going to park?” Too terrified and make-up-less to plead with the guard on the quad, I pulled up behind my office building and into the loading dock area. Leaving the car with with the hazards flashing I made my way up 3 flights of stairs to drop off my time card and prayed that I didn’t pass anyone of too high a stature.
Five minutes later I was safely back in my car and dreaming about long gone air conditioning.
Knowing I could drive back home and wallow in self pity, I instead made the executive decision to try and salvage my day. So I drove an extra 10 minutes and went to meet the husband for lunch.
And impromptu lunches like that can make any headache disappear 🙂
(Well, lunches like that, two new books, and another long bout of sleep. 🙂 )

oh boo on headaches. i hate waking up with them, definitely puts a damper on the day.
Glad you made it to everything without any glitches and that the headache finally decided to leave you alone. 🙂
you know what else will help your headache go away? ask your hubs, i’ll bet he could tell you : )
I had a headache like that the other day – SUCKS. I’m sorry. But glad you made it to lunch with the huz, and new books are always great cures for almost any ailment! 😉
Before aspirin, people probably just punched other people to relieve stress. Maybe.
Glad you feel better!
OK, now I’m REALLY glad our timecards are electronic and can be submitted from anywhere with an internet connection. Ugh.
Yucky! I hope you’re feeling much better now.
