Mom and I are playing Hooky (or is it Hookie?) this afternoon and going to see Bride Wars. Well technically we’re not playing Hooky/Hookie since we’ve both worked our asses off this week and deserve to cut out a little early on a Friday afternoon.
This morning we were discussing our plans for this afternoon and I suddenly burst out into the following:
I’m not sure that any of you know this about me but Annie? is hands down one of my all time favorite movies. As a child it was difficult to choose between Annie and The Wizard of Oz. (though, truth be told Annie always won out b/c we didn’t own the VHS for Wizard of Oz. I know, for shame!)
Annie is among one my first memories. I recall it being the first live action theatre I ever saw. Courtesy of my Aunt Leslie, who still maintains it was Annie Get Your Gun. To which I say, hey! I was 3, what do you want from me? They both have the name Annie!
My Aunt Leslie used to come over to our house and bring the LP of Annie and we’d dance and sing and giggle around the living room. And by we danced and sang, I mean my Aunt and my sister b/c I was crazy young and probably watched from my bouncy swing.
When I was in High School I used to put on the LP and clean the house belting out every song.
My husband bought me both versions of Annie two Christmases ago. And honestly? It’s difficult to choose which one I like better. And I’m not going to, b/c they’re completely different versions and they both have some AMAZING actors. I mean, how do you choose between Bernadette Peters and Kristin Chenoweth? Or Tim Curry and Alan Cumming? Simple…YOU DON”T!
My BeFri and I are known to text the lyrics of NYC back and forth to each other on random occasions and when I get off the plane at JFK I will always immediately text: “NYC! Just got here this morning!” And she’ll text back “3 Bucks! 2 bags! 1 me!”.
Long story short, Annie is amazing.
And I’m insane b/c I’ve gone from being excited about playing hooky/hookie with my mom this afternoon, to desperately wanting to do nothing but watch Annie all day!
*kisses*

Bernadette Peters for me, please! I love her drunk “I hate little girls” scene!
Yay! You deserve a break!
I feel lame admitting this… but I’ve never seen Annie. How embarrassing!
I do know all the words to “Tomorrow” mostly because it was my 5th grade graduation song.
Enjoy Bride Wars! I want to see it.
oh man, the movie is hands down the winner. i’m all for a great broadway show and typically i prefer the original broadway versions over the movie but this is an extreme case and i blame it on the fact that i watched the movie a million times before ever seeing the musical… and how can you not LOVE Albert Finney!?!
maybe it’s fair to just not compare the two versions in this instance
Ha! I’m playing hookie with my mom today too! But we’re going shopping. I’m peacing out of work early just so we can go buy us some new stuff.
Annie is an awesome movie, and I loved Bride Wars! Have fun.
“Let’s! Go toooo! The mooovies! Annie! Youuuuuuuu aaaaaand meeeeeeee!!!!”
Myea. I’ll choose Tim Curry every time, please.
It’s time for that Tim Curry movie party very soon too. I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately. <3
I wanna play hookie!! But I have a 4-day weekend coming up, so I suppose that would be lame.
i don’t think i’ve seen the new version of annie yet, i need to catch up. man i love musicals!
Ugh now I want to watch it too. Stupid obsessions. Actually, I want to see The King and I…weird. hehe. Have fun playing hooky (ie)!
That little girl playing Annie in your video creeps me out. It’s the thinning hair. Where is Carol Burnett in this discussion. Carol…I love you Miss Hannigan.
I’m more of a Grease fan, myself.
“Summer lovin’, had be a blaaa-aast!”
Um Tim Curry/Bernadette Peters/Carol Burnett version all the way. That was one of the movies that I had on constant repeat as a kid, and still have on DVD today.
I LOVE IT!
