- Do you remember the other day when I had my “oh my God I feel old” moment? I had another one yesterday. This one was so abrupt that I literally had to put my hand out to steady myself. I received an essay that began with the sentence…”I visited NYC for the first time the summer before 7th grade, coincidentally merely weeks before 9/11…” Think back to how old you were when 9/11 happened. Takes your breath away doesn’t it? Ah, youth.
- I am shocked at how many of you had never even heard of the awesomeness that is Oregon Trail. For shizzle, I lived for computer class. The deal was when you finished your “assignment” you had the choice of either playing Oregon Trail or Number Munchers. (And they were on floppy disks. Not the ones we know and don’t use today, those were called hard disks way back when. (at least that’s what they called it where I went to school) These floppy disks were like 4-5 inch squares.) When playing Oregon Trail you had the task of choosing a profession, speed of daily journeys, and you got to name your other wagon members. I’m not going to lie, all of my wagon members were the boys I had crushes on. The best part of the game (sadistically) was when someone died and you got to write something on their tombstone. An example of what I would write? “Here lies Ryan. He died b/c he wouldn’t make me his girlfriend.” No joke. It was an awesome way to get out my playground frustrations.
- Also, Number Munchers rocked as well.
- My husband and I got a new couch last night! And by”got a new couch” I mean my parents are having a new couch delivered today and we got their old one. It looks amazing with my living room furniture, even matching my husbands 10 year old (?) green recliner. We’ve moved the other couch into the game room and have officially moved the last bit of non-adult furniture out. The couch bed, better known as the top bunk from my childhood bunk beds.
- The bad thing about the new couch? It bit me. One of the upholstery staples underneath the couch scratched my index finger on my right hand. Thank goodness I know how long it’s been since my last tetanus booster!
- Today I’m rocking pigtails. I’m not sure why but I woke up this morning and said to myself, “self, you’re going to rock some pigtails today!” Behold!

- And finally, my sister and I are going to go see The Rocky Horror Show tonight. Not the movie, the musical. And rumor is that there’s audience participation. But honestly, I’m really going b/c I’m interested to see what college kid they got to play Frankenfurter. Dude, any 18-22 year old guy that will willingly wear a corset, fishnets, and massively high heels has got some serious onions***.
*kisses*
***Thank you Peter for helping me come up with a much better way to say “that dude has balls.” Onions is genius! Genius I say!

ooo rocky horror? i’m jealous.
and now i miss number munchers! think we should write to the facebook gurus and ask for their help with this?
Love the pigtails!
And hope you have a great time tonight ogling those onions – hehe
I totally remember Number Munchers! I loved that game… and now I feel like I was robbed of Oregon Trail! My husband seems to remember that game quite well.
As for Rocky Horror… um, totally jealous. I LOVE that movie and recently uncovered the soundtrack during my “uploading all music to iPod” phase and have been jamming away at the office.
I don’t know this “Peter” guy personally, but he sounds GLORIOUS!
“Onions” is now officially entering my vocab list for male genitalia.
LOVE the pigtails!! Ahhh-dorable!
pigtails are so cute!
but oregon trail… seriously i recall all that – esp the floppy disks in computer class!
AHH!! I loved oregon trail, i can’t believe i didnt comment on it the other day. It was also my favorite part of computer class, no doubt! Looking cute in the pigtails
Happy Thursday!!
I remember those floppies like it was yesterday. That, and DOS boot-up before Windows was MEGAhuge (albeit faulty).
Wow.
Oh my god I LOVED Number Munchers! Also, that 7th grade thing scares even me and usually people tell me that I make them feel old because I was in high school when 9/11 happened.
Cute pigtails!
Sounds like fun! We used to have those games in computer class too!
7th grade – 9/11? Crap, I do feel old. I was 18 at the time – a freshman in college. Oh, about 5 years older. And dude, if you’re old, I am even older so Shhhh . . .
I love your pigtails, and can you please stop talking about how old you are? Cuz, hi! (*raises hand*) A lot older than you!
xox
I’m so jealous about Rocky Horror
My teacher friend Kelly, yeah she found Oregon Trail AND Number Munchers on CD Rom. She bought them. I’m going to ask her to burn them for me. Yay for oldschool games!
In Spain, they literally say “he’s got eggs”
which is amusing
The pigtails are SO cute, Mim!
Also, thanks for the positive comment over on my blog today. Honestly, as soon as I hit “publish” I had a panic and wanted to take down the post. But, as they say, the blog is for me and it’s about me and all that fun stuff. So I decided to leave it up. It’s still rattling me every time I see a new message in my inbox though. I’m all “oh no! why did I post that!”
It helps to have had an encouraging first commenter though
Super cute pigtails. I like to do the two braids myself.
Rocky Horror Picture Show is one of those movies that is on my list. I have no idea why I haven’t seen it yet.
Ahhh, Number Munchers! That game rocked.
Precious pigtails!!
And I didn’t think it was possible that people had not heard of Oregon Trail! I also LIVED for that game in middle school/grade school and totally filled my wagon with my crushes–too funny!
Oregon Trail, oh how I love thee. Number munchers was nice but too educational for my elementary self. I also used to play a Dr. Brain on my computer at home. Not sure if anyone has heard of it, but it was awesome. I tried to find it one day at Best Buy, but apparently they don’t make it anymore.
Adorable pigtails!
And the original floppy disk. Sigh, soon kids won’t even know what the 3.5 disk was about…it’ll be all bluetooth and beaming me up scotty.
Sigh I’m so old.
I love pigtails. I would wear them more, except I kind of look like Pocahontas whenever I wear them, what with my dark hair. Whateves, at least you can rock them enough for the both of us!
You look adorable
Love the pigtails!!
And I have a secret to admit…I have never seen The Rocky Horror Show. I fell asleep five minutes in the one time my friends and I rented it from Blockbuster. But you know the creepy white-haired guy in it? (I think he also directed it?) He was one of my mom’s college professors. WEIRD.
Anyway, maybe I need to go rent it again.
Your pigtails were keee-yoot! I enjoy the Rachel pigtails.
You are too adorable!
I loved Carmen Sandiago during computer class.
Oddly enough, I had just been moved out on my own for 11 days on September 11th….
I feel like I’m late reading this…wait I am! Love the pigtails! And I remember exactly what I was doing on September 11th. And that statement made me feel really old. Did you like that pic I sent you the other day? Plans…tonight?!
i loved oregon trail, but it did not love me. i could never keep my peeps alive. it really effected my self esteem. number munchers was tha bomb! i can still hear the sad 80’s computer sounds in my head as i’m typing this.
and oh the floppy… also known as the 5″. i can’t even find a place to use my 3″ ones these days.
I usually do post titles okay. It is the body of the posts do do me in.
