Do you remember how excited I was about finding my Gus-Gus ornament?

Well it turns out, that’s not Gus Gus. That’s Jaq.

Whoops. Though in my defense, since 1987, when McDonald’s released these ornaments, (also when I was four) I’ve always thought that ornament was Gus Gus.
Now, because I was excited to finally have something to help me remember Angus but then it turned out that what I had wasn’t exactly what I thought it was, I had to go a little crazy with some search engines and found for the low price of $9.75 (including shipping) my very own Gus Gus ornament.

And just for shiggles, let’s look at a picture of the two mice together.

I find it funny that McDonalds seemed to be a little cheap when it came to the stuffing for the mice. Gus Gus is so obviously a fatty mouse, but those toys do nothing to show a difference in their size. At the very least Mickey Dee’s could have taken the stuffing they used for Jaq and put it in Gus Gus. At least that way they weren’t spending anymore money on stuffing.
My husband, b/c he loves me and he loved Angus also went on a wild and crazy search for something Gus Gus oriented. This is what he found.

It’s a book ornament with a very cute story inside.
Cinderella was very sad because her stepfamily had left her alone on Christmas Eve. So, her animal friends decided to cheer her up.
Gus, Jaq, and the other mice and birds gathered holly, mistletoe, and pine branches to make a garland to decorate Cinderella’s room.
After dinner, Gus and his friends decided to give Cinderella a Christmas present. They came up with the perfect thing.
When they finished making the gift, they wrapped it and tied it with a beautiful ribbon. Gus handed it to Cinderella. She was so surprised!
“How lovely!” exclaimed Cinderella as she put on the beautiful tiara. It was a merry Christmas after all.
This ornament came as part of a set.

And you know the Cinderella one came with a story too!
Cinderella wanted to make Christmas special for her animal friends. She gathered candles and garland and they all decorated the tree.
Then it was time for Christmas Eve dinner. But the cupboards were nearly empty.
But Cinderella had an idea! She picked some apples and made a Christmas pie for dessert. The mice and birds couldn’t wait to eat the tasty treat.
“But first, Christmas dinner,” she said, setting out oat caked and bowls of leftover soup. “I’m sorry this is such a simple meal, but at least we’re all together.”
It may have been a simple Christmas, but Cinderella and her friends had a wonderful time.
I would hang our new ornaments on the tree but I’m afraid they would meet an untimely end. Death by curious kitty cats, I can hear their inner monologues now…
Harley Quinn: “I wonder if those taste like the real thing?”
Joker: “Let’s find out”
HQ: “bleh, Mommy tricked us. These aren’t mice flavored, or even at the very least, catnip flavored. Let’s continue to destroy them and teach her a lesson!”
And because I can read their minds is precisely why these ornaments will have a place of honor, high above the cats reach. They could even end up becoming year long decorations…we shall see.
*kisses*

i’m with you. gus gus should have a little more stuffing around the waistline.
Yeah, I guess we were all fooled! I think the Gus-Gus stuffing was fine, but Jaq should’ve been a little skinnier!
I’m still kind of stuck on the fact that you were four in 1987. because hi, 13.
so cute! I always loved Gus-Gus
aww they make me smile
Too funny! Where in the world did he find those little books?!
I was also 4 in 1987, if it makes you feel better.
The mice were always my favorite part of the story.
They totally cheated on the stuffing of the mice! Jaq should be much skinnier.
Awwww, hehe. I love when you give your pets dialogue. Those cute evil schemers
This is adorable – I love Gus Gus and story behind your having him….

HAHAHA. Shiggles. I’m putting that one in rotation for sure.
i could not stop giggling throughout this entire post.
awesome.
and maybe? just maybe? i want to make that picture of jaq and gus gus, side by side, as my new desktop? i have to do things like that to maintain my tenuous grasp on sanity at work.
No WONDER I have these ornaments too! I didn’t realize they were from McDonald’s (I would have been three…impossible to remember that far back). But it all makes sense now. Glad to see they are reunited!
lol @ transferring fluff from Jaq to Gus-Gus.
Why doesn’t McDonald’s have nice things like this anymore? I can’t remember the last time I coveted a toy from there.
Shiggles is officially my new favourite word!!
